Families interested in the district’s new land-based learning program, set to start this September at the former Hall’s Prairie Elementary site, are encouraged to apply now as there are limited spaces still available.

Please note this is a full-time school program and not an after-school or summer program.

The program is available for kindergarten to Grade 7 students and features a rich blend of indoor and outdoor educational experiences. It is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning environment that balances an inquiry land-based classroom learning experience with engaging outdoor activities, such as exploring the nearby Ta’talu watershed including Semiahmoo Bay and Campbell Valley park.

Key highlights of the new program include:

  • Indoor and Outdoor Land-Based Learning Opportunities: Students will benefit from a curriculum that incorporates outdoor activities, promoting a deeper connection with the environment alongside land-based indoor learning.
  • Rooted in Indigenous Traditional Knowledge: The program is deeply rooted in Indigenous Coast Salish culture, honoring traditions and history as stewards of the land. It aligns with the First Peoples Principles of Learning, ensuring a respectful and comprehensive educational approach.
  • Focus on Holistic Development: Our aim is to foster personal, social, and environmental awareness, equipping students with the skills necessary for success in all aspects of life.

“Students will develop deeper connections and understanding of their relation to the land and their impact as stewards,” said Principal Kristy Crnkovich. “We’re so excited to be able to provide this unique learning and enrichment to students in our diverse school district. I encourage families to reach out if they have any questions about the program.”

The Hall’s Prairie site is located at 18035 8 Ave.
