LEARNING CENTRE TEACHER

1. DESCRIPTION OF SCHOOL LEVEL DELIVERY MODEL

The teacher will provide educational experiences to students aged 15 years or older

who are unable to complete their education in the regular school setting.

The teacher will be responsible for instruction that will include:

a) team teaching;          

b) cooperative planning;

c) inter- and multi-disciplinary studies;

d) self-paced individualized and small group learning.

2. MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

a) valid B. C. Teaching Certificate;

b) university degree with a major or minor in one of the following areas:

  • Science
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • History/Geography
  • Business Education
  • Computer Science

Postings will identify the specific subject in which a major or minor is required.

c)  recent proven experience working with "at risk" youth;

d)  two years' satisfactory teaching experience at the secondary level.

3. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

a) training in learning disabilities, reading and/or counselling;

b) training and/or experience with Learning Assistance;

c) training in basic computer work;

d) recent experience in a team teaching and/or cooperative planning setting;

e) some curriculum development/modification work.

4. REPORTING STRUCTURE

The personnel in this position are accountable in the execution of their assigned duties to the principal at the Learning  Centre to which they are assigned.
