Five Surrey Schools students have won medals at a provincial French public speaking competition that attracted 10,000 entrants.
A further eight Surrey Schools students were among the 285 finalists at the Concours d’art oratoire, which is open to all students in grades 6 to 12 who are learning French through a dedicated program.

Four of the students from Surrey who won medals came in first place. They were:

There was a second place medal at the competition for Jazlyn Melnychuk, a Grade 12 Early Immersion student at Earl Marriott Secondary.
Concours d’art oratoire was judged by French speaking volunteers and sponsored by the Canadian Parents for French BC and Yukon.
“It’s an incredible feat to make it to the provincial finals â- taking home a medal is a real achievement,” says chief judge Renée Hamilton-Clark.
