The Surrey School District’s mission is to prepare our learners to think creatively and critically, communicate skillfully, and demonstrate care for self and others. Established in 1906, the district covers Surrey, White Rock, and the rural portion of Barnston Island, making it the largest district in British Columbia. Over 83,000 students are enrolled throughout the 132 schools in the district, with 33 of the schools being designated complex. 196 languages are represented in our school communities creating a diverse and inclusive environment for our students and families. Due to the vast landscape of Surrey, we understand that the needs vary across the district and that the support must continue beyond the 9-3 classroom.
The district’s core mandate is to provide educational programs that meet provincial curriculum standards in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Embodying the First Peoples Principles of Learning, the Surrey School District believes that learning supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and the ancestors. We strive to provide the best possible education to our students in inclusive communities, resulting in the strongest families and a wide variety of supports, programs, and opportunities for our Surrey residents.
