Policy 9325 - Registration of International Students

1.

PHILOSOPHY

The Surrey Board of Education believes that international students add to the rich educational environment in School District No. 36 (Surrey).
The board believes the school district should levy fees, charges, as well as administer any type of refund, in a manner that ensures the financial resources needed to operate a cost effective and efficient program for the International Student Program are secured for the benefit of all students in the school district.
The board believes it is appropriate to conduct active marketing and recruiting activities to attract fee-paying international students to the school district as described in the supporting regulation.
The board directs that any provision within schools for international students will not be at the expense of children resident in the school district with respect to space or additional instructional support. In addition, the enrolment of international students will not normally exceed five percent (5%) of the school’s population.
Some students may not be required to pay any fees as outlined under Regulation #9325.1 – Registration of International Students.

2.

AUTHORITY

The board delegates the responsibility for setting the annual fees, charges and refunds amounts for the International Student Program to Administration following an annual review of the operations being undertaken.
