Policy 8475 - Career Education Programs

PHILOSOPHY

1.1. 
The Surrey Board of Education considers the experience, instruction and guidance provided to students through Career Education Programs to be highly beneficial to students’ satisfaction with career choices.
1.2. 
Recognizing the value of Career Education programs, the board encourages their development and related activities.

2.

INTENT

2.1. 
It is the intent of the board that Career Education experiences outside the school:
a)Constitute part of teaching methodologies to reach curriculum objectives.
b)Be planned to minimize risk.
c)Will have the responsibilities of the student, parent/guardian, sponsor/employer and the school district defined and agreed to in writing.

3. 

AUTHORITY

Administration is authorized to receive community input, establish and operate Career Education programs.
3.2. 
Administration is:
a)Authorized to establish standard contractual agreements between the Board, parents, students and sponsors regarding the operation of Career Education experience arrangements.
b)Authorized and responsible to enter into such agreements where students are involved in career education experiences away from school.
