Policy 5780 - Appropriate Use of Technology


1.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to identify the principles of appropriate use of technology throughout the District. 

2. 

DEFINITIONS

Technology refers to the combination of digital tools, resources, and systems that support and enhance education practices and administrative operations. This includes, but is not limited to devices such as computers, tablets and smartphones, as well as software applications, learning management systems, internet-based services, large language models, and other evolving technologies. 

3. 

POLICY

In alignment with the District’s commitment to fostering inclusive, safe, and impactful environments, this policy outlines the principles governing the appropriate use of technology in Surrey Schools.

3.1. Safety and Well-Being

Technology must be used responsibly to safeguard the education community from potential risks – including bias, discrimination, misinformation, data privacy, and cybersecurity threats.  

3.2.Equitable Access

Promote equitable access to technology.
