GIRLS GROUP
Program Description:
Girls Empowerment Program (Girls Group) is a partnership between Surrey Safe Schools, City of Surrey and the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Association. The program targets girls in Grade 8-10 who struggle to make and maintain healthy relationships, have school/community based behavioural issues, and are not attached to pro-social activities at home or in the community. The program runs at once a week from 2-4 p.m. at various secondary schools.
The purpose of the Girls Empowerment Program is to engage youth in positive pro-social activities, connect them to positive adult allies, and bridge them to positive networks in Surrey.
Girls Group offers both school-based and non-school based activities to learn life skills like cooking, hear from guest presenters, and engage in positive social activities, such as climbing, yoga, self-defenses, pottery, camping and swimming.
These activities gives students the opportunity build confidence, provide them with support, and give them mentors they feel comfortable talking to.
