Surrey Schools seeks community member for Board’s Audit & Risk Committee
The Surrey Board of Education is looking for one community member to join its Audit & Risk Committee, lending their expertise and experience to the financial side of the district.
Comprised of the Finance Committee chair, two trustees and an independent external community member, the Audit & Risk committee supports the board in overseeing financial reporting, internal and external audits, compliance and risk management. The committee meets at least three times a year, with its primary areas of focus on financial accuracy, risk assessment and the evaluation of internal controls and governance systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management and/or auditing, with a solid understanding of public sector accounting and auditing standards. Additional expertise in legal matters, governance, risk management, information technology or business management is an asset.
Applicants must:
- be a resident of Surrey or White Rock;
- be at least 18 years of age;
- hold an accounting designation and possess senior financial management experience relevant to public sector accounting and auditing standards;
- not be a current employee or officer of Surrey Schools, another school district or a school authority; and
- not have an immediate family member (parent, child or spouse) currently employed by Surrey Schools.
