Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association & RCMP basketball tourneys on this week and next!
The competition is heating up in secondary basketball as the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic took the court yesterday while the Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic tips off next week.
The 23rd annual Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic runs from Monday, Jan. 6 to Saturday, Jan. 11, putting the spotlight on senior girls high school basketball. The Queen Elizabeth Royals topped last year’s Ladder division while the Clayton Height Riders defeated the two-time champions the Fleetwood Park Dragons in the Axe division.
The Goodwill Basketball Classic features teams from more than 20 secondary schools, including Clayton Heights, Elgin Park, Enver Creek, Fleetwood Park, Frank Hurt, Fraser Heights, Grandview Heights, Guildford Park, Johnston Heights, L.A. Matheson, Lord Tweedsmuir, North Surrey, École Panorama Ridge, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth, École Salish, Semiahmoo, Sullivan Heights and Tamanawis, as well as Holy Cross Regional High School, Khalsa School, Pacific Academy and Southridge.
Then on Sunday, Jan. 12, the 33rd annual Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic takes over local secondary school gyms with junior and senior boys’ competitions, leading up to the senior finals on Sunday, Jan. 19. Last year, the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers won the senior tournament while the Tamanawis Wildcats took the junior tourney.
