Connect to Kindergarten: Attend our info sessions for families of students entering kindergarten!
With kindergarten registration opening Jan. 13, Surrey Schools is hosting a series of information sessions ahead of registration to support families of children entering kindergarten in September 2025.
Connect to Kindergarten is a series of three information sessions that serves as a comprehensive resource for early learners, providing insights and guidance on navigating the intricacies of the kindergarten experience. Kindergarten is an important milestone for students, and we know this time is equally important to parents and caregivers!
“Children arrive to school filled with amazing potential, and we celebrate each one exactly as they are,” said Leah Christensen, District Principal for Early Learning and Child Care at Surrey Schools.
“We hope to provide families with a perspective about what is most important in a child’s kindergarten year and reassure parents that every school is dedicated to being a welcoming, safe place for all children, including children with diverse abilities and disabilities.”
Parents and caregivers of students entering kindergarten in September 2025 are invited to attend the online and in-person sessions, which will be held in three parts. With two opportunities to attend each session, the details are as follows:
Session 1 (Online): Registration & Beyond
The first session will focus on practical information such as how and when to register for kindergarten, what to expect in September and what preparation can be done in the meantime. It also explores Programs of Choice and how to register for the kindergarten lottery.

Session 2 (Online): Helping my child be “school ready”
The second session will focus on exploring school “readiness” and go over what the school may expect of your child when it comes to independence, and what you can do to support a successful transition to kindergarten.

Session 3 (In Person): Emotional Well Being and School Readiness: How play and attachment are key!
For the third and final session, families will learn about the kindergarten curriculum and how play supports learning and development, as well as the role of attachment in ensuring feelings of safety when going to school for the first time and encouraging a readiness for learning.
Session 3 takes place:
- Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Resource Education Centre (14123 92nd Ave.)
Child care will be provided for children ages 2 to 10. Please note, child care space is limited. If you require child care during the session, please complete this form in advance. We will contact you in advance if demand exceeds our capacity.
Child care will be located in a room in the same building as the presentation. We will collect important health information from parents along with a parent/guardian consent form that evening.
