As the new school year begins, Surrey Schools is grateful for the amount of community support it received during this past summer’s school drive to ensure all students were able to start the school year with the backpacks and supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.

Thanks to generous organizations and individuals, more than 2,000 students arrived in class equipped with new supplies for the year ahead. Since June, the district has received donations of new backpacks and school supplies from numerous organizations and individuals, which were distributed to nearly every school in the district for students and families in need of support at the start of the school year.

“New school supplies play an essential role in a student’s education – fresh materials can spark excitement and interest in learning,” said Vanessa Seco, Manager of Major Gifts & Endowments with the district’s Advancement Office. “It is essential that all students start the year with new supplies to take on the new school year.

“These supplies are so much more than just tools for learning, they build confidence and spark creativity. Without the community and the support of our donors, we would not be able to provide this for all students who need it.”

The district wants to extend their gratitude to this year’s donors:

  • Crystal Consulting Inc. (Allure Properties)
  • Khalsa Aid
  • Saheli Foundation
  • Islamic Relief
  • ICNA Sisters
  • Guru Nanak Food Bank
  • Telus
  • Henry Schein
  • Costco
  • Pacific Custom Brokers
  • Coast Capital

The district’s Office of Advancement accepts donations year-round that support students and schools in the district.
