Community partners provide meal relief for hundreds of Surrey schools families during summer break

More than 200 Surrey Schools families are receiving meal support during the summer break, thanks to the commitment of the district’s Advancement department and generous community partners.

City Dream Centre, along with several of its community church partners, have been providing 141 families with weekend food hampers through July and August. With district assistance, the initiative serves families from 19 local elementary schools.

Relate Church has also been providing weekly hampers to four other Surrey elementary schools, supporting a further 84 families.

For many families across the district who rely on school meal programs during the school year, periods like summer and winter break can be an uncertain time. Summer meal support programs help bridge the gap and contribute to a continuity of stability for the families that need it, as identified by their schools.

In addition, Surrey Schools also provided food to over 6,000 students taking part in various summer programs, including nearly 300 lunches. Grocery store gift cards were also provided to families through the Food for Families program via the Feeding Futures department.
