Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association & RCMP basketball tourneys start over next two weeks

The January weather may be cold but the competition inside is heating up as the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic takes the court next week, followed by the Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic the following week.
The 22nd annual Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic runs from Monday, Jan. 8 to Saturday, Jan. 13, putting the spotlight senior girls high school basketball. The Fleetwood Park Dragons look to three-peat in the Axe Division while North Surrey Secondary defends its title as last year’s Ladder Division champions.
The Goodwill Basketball Classic features teams from 20 secondary schools, including Clayton Heights, Earl Marriott, Enver Creek, Frank Hurt, Fraser Heights, Grandview Heights, Guildford Park, Johnston Heights, École Kwantlen Park, L.A. Matheson, Lord Tweedsmuir, North Surrey, École Panorama Ridge, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth, Semiahmoo, Sullivan Heights and Tamanawis, as well as Holy Cross Regional High School, Khalsa School and Pacific Academy.
Then on Sunday, Jan. 14, the 32nd annual Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic takes over local secondary school gyms with junior and senior boys’ competitions, leading up to the senior finals on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Enver Creek Cougars look to defend their championship title, after winning last year’s finals with a bleacher-clearing buzzer-beater on their home turf.
