Surrey Community College opens admissions for Education Assistant Diploma fall intake
Admissions are now open for fall intake (beginning in September) of Surrey Community College’s Education Assistant Diploma program.
The program, which prepares individuals to work as education assistants and inclusive education support workers, features more than 200 practicum hours designed to provide students with the hands-on experience needed to succeed as a confident EA (IESW). Classes are available both day and night, giving candidates a flexible attendance schedule.
Surrey Community College EA program graduates are guaranteed an interview with the Surrey School District, increasing the program’s graduate rate-of-hire. In the most recent cohort, students had a 100% graduation rate, with 73 opting to apply with Surrey Schools. Of those who applied, 84% were hired by the district two weeks after graduation.
Kendra Van Roon, program coordinator with Surrey Community College, said EAs/Inclusive Education Support Workers are critical members of the education system, supporting the social and emotional needs of diverse learners.
“Education assistants are crucial to the successful integration of these students into the classroom and play key roles in helping our learners achieve their individual goals and reach their potential,” said Van Roon. “The support that EA’s and IESW’s provide can create a huge difference in the trajectory and success of children and youth who require additional guidance in the public school system.”
