Principal's Message April 14-18th

Good morning Panthers!

It is a beautiful Thursday Spring morning at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary; such a beautiful time of year!   The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and our students and staff are focussed on learning and friendship.  Each day, as I make my way around the school, I see our Panther community highly engaged in curriculum and extra-curricular activities.  We are so fortunate to be a member of the LTSS family.  To all students… keep up the good work, appreciate all that our school provides, and become involved in school life!  Way to go Panthers!

Last Thursday evening, our LTSS Music program played to a very appreciative audience of family and friends.   It was a beautiful evening of music.   Congratulations to all of our student-musicians.

Last Friday, we celebrated Vaisakhi!  Our school’s Bhangra team has been very active this year and enjoying great success.   Our South Asian Students and Allies Club, along with our Bhangra team, hosted a Vaisakhi celebration at lunch and displayed their amazing talent.  Our student and staff audience loved the showcase and we were so impressed with our dancers.  Great thanks to all students and staff who helped host the event.

This week I had the wonderful opportunity to spend much of a day presenting to Ms. Newton’s  CLC 12 students on developing a positive mindset and good habits.  I really enjoyed speaking to our students and describing some of my own “life lessons” and experiences.  Thank you for the invitation to speak, and I hope our students enjoyed hearing about my “adventures in running”!

On Thursday morning, we had the opportunity to meet with our Dry Grad Committee to finalize details on this very important graduation celebration.  Great thanks to our Dry Grad Executive for all of your leadership and countless hours of hard work.  This year, our Grade 12 students will be able to continue the celebration at Central City Fun Park after the Grad Dinner Dance.  Students will enjoy an evening of arcade games, bowling, dancing, laser tag, food and prizes.  It promises to be a fantastic evening of fun and friendship.  The deadline for Grad Dinner-Dance and Dry Grad ticket sales is May 9th.  All Graduating students must purchase their ticket by May 9th.   Tickets may be purchased online through our school’s online payment system.  All graduating students are highly encouraged to buy BOTH Dinner Dance and Dry Grad tickets at the same time.  Those students that purchase both tickets will be entered into a draw for an Amazon Gift card.

Also on Thursday, we had the opportunity to meet some of our incoming Grade 8 students, introduce our amazing Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary community, and go for a tour of the school.   Thank you to our Indigenous student success team for all of your caring support.

All Parents/guardians are reminded that this evening at 6:00pm on Zoom, we will be hosting our Parent Advisory Council Meeting.  Guest speakers from “The Foundry” and “BC Junior Achievement” will be joining us to discuss their important work with youth.  It promises to be a very informative meeting and a great opportunity for parents to learn more about Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary and the broader community of support.  We hope to see you there!

All Panthers are reminded that the school will be closed on Friday and Monday for Good Friday and Easter Monday Statutory holidays. We wish everyone a Happy Easter and a safe and enjoyable long weekend.

Have an excellent Friday and a happy long Easter weekend.  We’ll see you back at school on Tuesday. 😊  We are looking forward to our Earth Day celebration activities next week.

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.  Students must park in their designated stall.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
