Principal's Message March 4-8th

Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

Happy Thursday morning, I hope your week is going well.  As always, school-life at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is full of great learning successes, interesting and complex challenges and proud students and staff.  Together, every day, we build our community of caring and excellence, and together, we accomplish so much.  The respectful and supportive partnership between our school and our community is so important.  Thank you to all members of our LTSS family for your contribution to our school.

Last week ended with a fundraiser organized by our Student Council and Leadership students.  Funds collected from the event were donated to the BC Community Alliance.   Lots of fun, and support of an important cause.  😊 Thank you to all students and staff who donated in support of equity, inclusion and diversity within our community.

This week has been Early Intervention Week and a time for teachers to communicate informally with families about their child’s progress.  All families should expect to receive some form of communication about their child (Ex. Phone call, student self-assessment signed by the teacher, email, parent-teacher conference).  If your child’s teacher has concerns about their progress, they may be issued an ‘Insufficient Evidence’ form which outlines the nature of the concerns and includes an action plan for how to get your child back on track.  If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please contact their teachers.

On Wednesday our Senior Boys Basketball team competed in the AAAA BC Provincial Championships against Burnaby South Secondary at the Langley Events Centre.  This was an exciting and very memorable opportunity for our Panthers.   Congratulations to the team for all you have accomplished this season!

On Wednesday afternoon, we had the opportunity to host all of the school administrators from the Cloverdale/Clayton zone.  It was a valuable chance to share and discuss common issues across our community.  I was reminded of the complexity of today’s public education system, the importance of our work together and the positive influence that our schools have in society.

On Thursday, we have Early Dismissal and Parent-Teacher Interviews.  This is a very important opportunity for parents/guardians to meet with 2nd semester teachers and discuss the progress of our students.  Thank you to all staff for your time and professionalism and to all parents for your partnership and support.  With Spring Break just around the corner, and our semester moving so quickly, now is the time for students to rededicate themselves to their learning goals.  Never underestimate the value of a strong work ethic and consistency in your efforts.   Make us proud Panthers!

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day.  We look forward to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your weekend.  See you on Monday!

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety around Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is a critical priority for our community.  With increased enrollment, the number of vehicles navigating around and within our school grounds also increases.  It is essential that all drivers are very cautious while driving near the school and are aware of the many student pedestrians who are nearby.

All students and parents/guardians are requested to consider the following:

  • If possible, students - please walk and/or bike to school.  Fewer vehicles attempting to drop off and/or pick up students will be very helpful.
  • Consider dropping off/picking up 2-3 blocks away from the school and avoid the traffic congestion around the school.
  • Consider drop-off/pick up earlier and/or later in the morning/afternoons to avoid peak traffic times.

Thank you for your help in protecting the safety of our students.
