Principal's Message February 26th-March 1st
Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!
Hello everyone, March is just around the corner, our 2nd semester is rolling along, and it is a time of significant learning and much activity at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. This is a very important time of year for students and staff. Our entire community of Panthers is highly engaged in the life of our school. I am always so impressed with the diversity of programming and learning opportunities that we can offer as a large, comprehensive secondary school. Great thanks to our entire staff for your professionalism and care of our students and to all parent/guardians for your partnership and support in the education of your children. Working together, our students accomplish so much. There are only 2 weeks remaining before our Spring Break… and all students are highly encouraged to continue to focus on your studies and work very hard. Go Panthers!
Last Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of attending our annual “Tweedy’s Got Talent” Fine and Performing Arts Talent Show. The evening was hosted by our Student Council and Leadership students and showcased our amazing Lord Tweedsmuir students! The event was a great success with a full house of proud and happy friends and families celebrating the accomplishments of our Panthers. I really enjoyed watching the show and seeing our students’ art on display. It was another special evening of community. Thank you to all students and staff for your hard work in organizing the show!
This week we formally began our Grade 7 Articulation/communication process with the publication of our Grade 7 Parent Information Video and our Counselling visits to all of our Associate Elementary schools for course selection. It is an exciting time for our future Panthers, as their introduction to high school begins. We are looking forward to meeting and working with next year’s Grade 8 students and know that they are coming to a very special place. Here is a link to the Grade 7 Parent/Guardian Presentation Video

On Monday afternoon, we held our Staff Meeting and invited a special guest speaker to present to our staff. Thank you to Surrey Schools Director of Instruction for Racial Equity, Mr. JB Mahli for your presentation on Racial Equity. This is such an important conversation. We will continue to work together to move forward in support of equity, diversity and inclusion within our Panther community.
We also had the opportunity to welcome several Teacher Candidates to our school. Congratulations on your decision to become a teacher. You are entering such an honourable and important profession… and you will change the world with your dedication, professionalism and care! Welcome to Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary… you are part of a very special community! 😊

This week all of our Grade 8 students have been completing the “Middle Years Development Instrument” Survey. This has been a large and complicated task and will provide important anonymous information on the health and wellbeing of our teens. Great thanks to all Grade 8 teachers for your support and flexibility in allowing this to occur.
Wednesday was Pink Shirt – Anti-bullying Awareness Day. We saw many students and staff wearing pink to show their support for this important message. Thank you to our Student Council for sponsoring the day and for the distribution of t-shirts and buttons to our school community. All members of our Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary community are reminded of our School District’s anonymous Reporting website: Protecting Surrey Schools Together - https://www.psst-bc.ca We are proud of the positive, inclusive culture of our school and we will continue to reinforce the importance of working together to build a community which is safe, caring and inclusive for all Panthers.
Speaking of which, our Health and Safety Committee met on Wednesday to debrief our recent COR Health and Safety Audit. As always, thanks to our committee members for your leadership in building systems that support the safety of all students and staff.
Basketball continues to entertain and bring us together this week with our Senior Girls participation in the Provincial Tournament at the Langley Events Center and our Senior Boys competing in the South Fraser Zone Championships hosted here at LTSS. Good luck Panthers! We are very proud of your many successes this season
Wednesday afternoon was a very big day for our Senior Girls Basketball team. The team played against Burnaby Central Secondary at the Langley Events Center in the British Columbia Provincial Championships and emerged with a victory. They had an excellent game and are proceeding to the next round. Our team has had a very strong season and are wonderful ambassadors for our school and the LTSS Athletics Program. Way to go Panthers!
Our Senior Boys Basketball team has also been very active this past week at the South Frasers… Last evening they earned their seat in the Provincial Championships with a victory over Fleetwood Park and will compete this evening for 3rd place in the South Frasers. Good luck team!
Tomorrow promises to be a fun and active day with our student leadership group, the Anti-Racism Alliance and their fundraiser in support of Black History month. I can hardly wait for the results of the student vote for the always popular “pie in the face” for the “winning” teacher… 😉
I hope you have had an excellent week. Enjoy your weekend, and we will see you back at school on Monday morning.

Traffic Safety
Traffic safety around Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is a critical priority for our community. With increased enrollment, the number of vehicles navigating around and within our school grounds also increases. It is essential that all drivers are very cautious while driving near the school and are aware of the many student pedestrians who are nearby.
All students and parents/guardians are requested to consider the following:
- If possible, students - please walk and/or bike to school. Fewer vehicles attempting to drop off and/or pick up students will be very helpful.
- Consider dropping off/picking up 2-3 blocks away from the school and avoid the traffic congestion around the school.
- Consider drop-off/pick up earlier and/or later in the morning/afternoons to avoid peak traffic times.
Thank you for your help in protecting the safety of our students.
