Principal's Message December 4-8th
This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir Thursday December 7th, 2023
Good morning Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!
Hello Panthers and welcome to another edition of “This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir”. It is now December, our Winter Holiday and Christmas traditions are underway, and students and staff are highly engaged in their learning and celebration of community. As always, it is a busy and fun time of the year! Great thanks to all students and staff for your contributions to our school, and I wish you the very best for many successes and happiness over the next two weeks. Time will move quickly!
On Monday we began our Cloverdale Community Kitchen annual Christmas Hamper Drive. This year the student body has been challenged to donate enough items to “Push Out the Principal” from his office. 😊 With all donated items being stored in my office, I hope to be working in the hallway by the end of the campaign! Hot Chocolate and candy-gram sales have also been underway, along with classroom holiday decorations and more.
This week I had the chance to drop by and say “hello” to our newly formed student Anti-Racism Alliance Club. This group of student leaders will make a difference in our community and help to reinforce and add to our culture of equity, diversity and inclusion. Student leadership is so important for a school community. Great thanks to our Anti-Racism Alliance for your work and energy this year! Your influence as role models in our community is noticed and appreciated.
On Tuesday, our students participated in Health Canada’s Student Health and Wellness survey. Thank you to all students for your participation and to all teachers for your support and flexibility in conducting the survey. The survey will provide important, anonymous information about the health and well-being of our youth and direction for future systems of support and guidance.
On Wednesday afternoon, I had a chance to drop by and observe our student-artists at work with their theme of “clocks”. We have many very talented and creative students at our school. I’m looking forward to seeing their completed projects.
This week on Thursday and Friday evenings, our Drama Department is hosting their evening of One Act Plays. I’m really looking forward to watching the show and celebrating the talent and hard work of our student actors and crew. Congratulations to all of our Drama students – break a leg! 😊
Next week we will be hosting several important educational and celebratory events. It will be First Peoples in Residence Week, with Indigenous elders and guests in the school for Opening and Closing Ceremonies and for classroom presentations. We will also be holding our Door Decorating Contest next week. Our Winter Formal Dance for senior students will be on Thursday evening and then our Grade 12 Breakfast is scheduled for Friday morning. It promises to be a memorable week of learning and friendship.
I hope that all Panthers have had an enjoyable week with interesting challenges and new learning. It is an important time for our school, students and staff.
All the best. Have an excellent Friday and a relaxing weekend!

Traffic Safety
Traffic safety around Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is a critical priority for our community. With increased enrollment, the number of vehicles navigating around and within our school grounds also increases. It is essential that all drivers are very cautious while driving near the school and are aware of the many student pedestrians who are nearby.
All students and parents/guardians are requested to consider the following:
- If possible, students - please walk and/or bike to school. Fewer vehicles attempting to drop off and/or pick up students will be very helpful.
- Consider dropping off/picking up 2-3 blocks away from the school and avoid the traffic congestion around the school.
- Consider drop-off/pick up earlier and/or later in the morning/afternoons to avoid peak traffic times.
Thank you for your help in protecting the safety of our students.
