Code of Conduct
Rational: Sullivan Elementary
Sullivan has a safe and caring school environment where students are expected to take pride in their school and community. The school code of conduct provides guidelines for positive behaviour and consistent discipline that takes appropriate measures to prevent and intervene in matters of student safety.
We expect students to assume responsibility for their behaviour. the staff assists students in developing skills for resolving conflict, problem solving and decision making appropriate to their age and the cultural needs of our school community.
We value and encourage a learning and working environment that is inclusive, and respectful of the diverse social and cultural needs or our school community.
Students are expected to:
- Treat one another with dignity and respect
- Respect the rules of the classroom and those in positions of authority
- Respect school property and the property of others
- Be punctual and attend school daily (legitimate circumstances considered)
- Dress appropriately for school (clothing that sufficiently covers the body and is free of inappropriate sayings and logos)
- Use common sense and good judgement
- Be respectful of other people, their cultures and traditions
Students will be held responsible for their actions and accept the consequences of their behavior. Discipline may include the loss of privileges, detentions, community service, making restitution, and/or suspension from school. Parents will be contacted according to the discretion of the principal and in all matters involving suspensions.
At Sullivan there will be no:
- Bullying, Cyberbullying, misuse of technology (Call Phones/Electronics Devices/Computers) if it negatively impacts on the school environment, harassment, threat, intimidation, violent in any form
- Verbal, physical or sexual abuse
- Racial discrimination
- Theft
- Vandalism
- Retribution against any person who has reported incidents
At Sullivan we will not tolerate the presence of:
- Intoxicating substance or banned substances (ie. smoking)
- Weapons and explosives
- Intruders or trespassers
- Firecrackers
- Weapons are defined as:
- Real - such as guns, knives, etc.
- Replicas - such as toy guns, knives, etc.,
- Anything that can be used as a weapon - such as chain, razor blade or shard of glass
It is the student's responsibility not to bring to school, or be in possession of at school, items that can be used as weapons or as replicas of weapons.
