Social Studies
Grandview Heights Social Studies Department
The goal of Social Studies is to develop thoughtful, responsible, active citizens that can acquire information to consider multiple perspectives and make reasoned judgments. By providing opportunities to reflect on events and issues students examine the present, make connections with the past and consider the future.
Social Studies 9 & 10 are required courses where students build on the historical thinking skills that are introduced in Humanities 8. Social Studies 9 focuses on change and revolution in Canada and Europe from approximately 1600 – 1900. Social Studies 10 examines the Canadian democratic system as well as 20th Century history through a Canadian lens. Grandview Heights offers a variety of senior Social Studies to meet the interests of our diverse student body including; 20th Century History, Law, Physical Geography, Human Geography, Social Justice, Political Studies, & Psychology.
