Our School
Colebrook Elementary was built in 1919 as a one room school. Originally the school was located, up the hill from the farm land, on Station Road. Our school serviced the children from the farming district west of King George Highway and north of the Serpentine River. Today students at Colebrook come from one of the largest catchment areas in Surrey extending from King George Blvd from the east and 120th avenue on the west. This catchment also extends from Highway 10 on the North to Highway 99 at the south.
Goal
At our school, students and staff are working together to develop a Culture of Reading to Support and Improve Literacy Levels.
Initiatives
- Teachers at Colebrook have embraced the needs of our students and many of our teachers are working together with our District Helping Teachers in the Responding to Readers initiative.
- In addition to reading in each classroom, students at Colebrook are participating in a school wide Home Reading program with accomplishments celebrated each month in a Reading Focused Assembly.
- Colebrook Elementary fosters a learning environment where students are aware of climate issues and given the opportunities to appreciate their natural environment and take action on issues important to them.
- Colebrook Elementary provides opportunities for students to explore their interests in Extra Curricular Clubs and Activities.
- Together with families and the broader community we are collaborating to raise healthy, happy, and capable students as community members.
