Volunteer Driving - New Process 2025
October 6, 2025
Dear A.J. McLellan Families,
The Ministry of Education has introduced a new policy that is now in effect in all schools across B.C. As part of this policy, parent volunteer drivers are required to provide both a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and an ICBC Driver’s Abstract before they can transport students on school field trips or events.
This policy has been implemented to ensure the highest level of safety for students. By completing both checks, schools can confirm that volunteer drivers have safe driving records and that they meet the necessary standards to supervise and transport children.
What is required to hand into the office for parent volunteers:
- Driver’s Abstract: You will need to provide a driver’s abstract, available through ICBC.
- Vehicle Insurance Documents (Office staff needs to view only)
- Drivers License (Office staff needs to view only)
- Completed Driver Application Form
Helpful resources for parents (please see attachments):
- A Volunteer Drivers Information Guide with step-by-step instructions.
- QR Code to Request a Criminal Record Check
- Driver Application Form
We truly value and appreciate our parent volunteers. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through these changes together, keeping student safety at the heart of everything we do.
