Principal's Message December 8-12th
Hello Panthers!
It is a dark and rainy morning at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. Lovely day! ;-)
Thank you to all students and staff for your focus, perseverance and hard work as you make your way through these final days before our Winter Break. It is no surprise that school-life continues to be very full with important learning, many special events and traditions that define this time of the year. Our Panthers are highly engaged and focussed on success! Our school community will continue to emphasize the value of hard work, celebration of learning and the importance of community building over the days ahead.
At the end of last week, our senior students enjoyed our Winter formal dinner and dance at the Mirage Banquet hall. This is an annual tradition that we have been hosting for several years. Our students were excellent ambassadors of our school community, and the evening was enjoyed by all. Thank you to the staff who volunteered to give up their evening to help supervise and make the event possible. Way to go Panthers!

This week, our Student Council leaders hosted other important school traditions with this year’s Food Hamper Drive and Candy Gram sales. As mentioned last week, our school has partnered with the Cloverdale Community Kitchen. We are collecting food items throughout the week that will be delivered to families in Cloverdale. We are very grateful for all donations provided by students and staff and know that we are making a difference in our community. Thank you Panthers!

Our Kindness Café Club is also hosting their hot chocolate fundraiser this week for Canucks Place. This is another very worthy cause that makes a very significant positive difference in the lives of many. Thank you to the student members of the club for your social responsibility and citizenship.
On Tuesday, Fraser Health nurses were at the school providing the grade 9 Immunization program. The nurses will be returning to the school on December 16th for those grade 9 students who were absent this week. Thank you to our teachers for your flexibility. Parents/guardians are reminded that Fraser Health has sent home an informed consent letter with each grade 9 student. Please contact Fraser Health directly if you have any questions.
Our Winter Music Concert was held at the Bell Theatre for the Performing Arts on Tuesday evening. Congratulations to our LTSS Music Program for all of your hard work and talent. We are very proud of our school’s long history of excellence in music and are highly supportive of our music students, staff and program! Again, we are very grateful to be able to provide this incredible learning experience for generations of LTSS students.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we began the process of building next year’s timetable. We met with our grade 8 and 9 students for our first “Course Selection” assemblies. Our Counselling team provided students with important information about their course options, requirements, and the process for selecting their courses for next year. We will be meeting with Grade 10 and 11 students in January and February. All students are reminded that course selection requires very careful thought. As always, once the timetable is built, there will be very limited opportunities to change your selection requests. Great thanks to our Counselling team for all your work in gathering this important information for next year’s timetable.

Tomorrow morning we will be hosting our annual Grade 12 Breakfast with Santa! Grade 12 students are invited to join us for a free pancake breakfast in our cafeteria starting at 7:30am. The morning promises to be a fun and festive occasion with good food and friendship! See you tomorrow morning Grade 12’s!
Leadership students in our Cultural Awareness Club have been busy creating bulletin boards to help raise awareness and celebrate our school’s cultures and traditions. Great work Panthers!

Our GSA Club has also been busy with our Rainbow stairway project and our important work in recognizing and celebrating diversity and inclusion within our LTSS community. Thank you, the stairs look great!

I wish all Panthers a happy Friday and a restful weekend!
Ken

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
