Principal's Message March 9-13th
Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary,

It is our final week before Spring Break – hard to believe! Congratulations to all students and staff for all you have accomplished this term. When families and school partner together, when students and staff work toward a common goal of excellence, when we celebrate our achievements as a community, when we embrace the beauty of cultural diversity, when we provide grace and compassion in times of challenge and when we support the growth and development of friends and colleagues, we create a school of amazing strength, pride and success. Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary strives every day to reflect these values. We are proud of our school community, our students and our staff. Thank you to all Panthers for all you contribute to our school and to each other!

Thank you to all parents/guardians/caregivers who attended last week’s Parent-Teacher interviews. The afternoon and evening sessions were well attended and provided both families and staff with valuable feedback and information for success. Great thanks to our teachers for your professional, caring support of your students through your participation in this very important event.
Sunday, March 8th was International Women’s Day. Thank you to Mr. Sexton, our Teacher-Librarian for your work in promoting this important day and to our staff for your work in integrating this special recognition into your curriculum.

This week is Core Competency Week. All students are required to fulfill this graduation requirement each year by reflecting on the growth of their Core Competencies of Thinking skills, Communication skills and Personal and Social Responsibility skills. Students are also asked to set goals related to their Core Competencies and reflect on their progress. Our school has developed a Reflection and Goal Setting assignment in order to meet these requirements. Parents/guardians are encouraged to ask your child to review this assignment with you. The assignment may be found on your child’s school district email account.
On Tuesday, several of our students participated in the Surrey School District’s “Sacred Ribbons” project at Martha Currie Elementary school. Our student leaders helped the younger students with their Indigenous Art project – they created a rattle. It was a fun and important day of cultural learning and celebration. Way to go Panthers!

Also on Tuesday, students in Mr. Kumar’s Law 12 classes had the opportunity to spend the day visiting the Surrey Provincial Courthouse. This was an incredible field trip for our Panthers and a powerful learning experience for them. Thank you for being wonderful ambassadors of Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

Tomorrow morning, students will be asked to clean up their lockers for Spring Break. Thank you to all students for your efforts in ensuring that your locker is clear of food and garbage. We are very proud of our beautiful school campus, and it is important to protect and maintain the health and cleanliness of our building. Again, thank you for your help.
I wish all students and staff a happy Friday and a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break. Rest, recuperate, recharge and have fun. We will return on March 30th for our final term of the year. April to June is always the busiest term and will be a highly important time of learning and school celebrations and traditions. It will move quickly!

All the best,
Ken

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Note: For the safety and privacy of our students, please avoid using the Elements Casino entrance as a designated drop-off/pick-up location.
Students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
