Principal's Message May 19-22nd

Good morning Panthers!

I hope all Panthers are doing well and enjoying all that our school offers during this exciting and busy time of year.  The final five weeks of our 2025-26 school year will be very full with many year-end traditions and celebrations and final instruction and assessment.  I wish everyone success and encourage all students to dedicate yourself to your studies until the very end of the term.  You can do it Panthers!

Students in our BASES program recently competed at the One Ability Games at the Richmond Oval, and again at the District Track meet at Semiahmoo Secondary.  Congratulations to all students on your success and sportsmanship.  We are proud of you!

We returned to school on Tuesday after the Victoria Day long weekend.  It is Pride Week at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.  Our Student Council, Leadership Students and GSA Club have been working hard to ensure that our school recognizes the importance of inclusion, respect and the creation of a safe and welcoming community.  Thank you for your leadership!

On Tuesday, I had the chance to meet with our Staff Committee.  We discussed our process for determining next year’s Extended Bell schedule and our process for deciding on possible Summer Professional Development for staff.  As always, I appreciate the input and feedback I receive during these important meetings.

On Wednesday, I attended the District’s Mock Audit working session.  We reviewed selected files for audit compliance.  I would like to thank the various teachers/case managers/ clerical staff for your work in preparing the files for review.  This was a significant task and a very important component of ensuring that our school and district are able to provide the necessary resources and support for our students.  This work will continue throughout the summer and into the Fall.

On Thursday, our Panther Players will be hosting their Opening Night Performance of “Almost Maine”!  Our students have been working so hard to stage this romantic comedy.   Shows are on  May 21,22, 28, 29 and June 4,5! We hope to see many students and families in our Theatre.  Buy your tickets while they are still available.

Tomorrow we will be meeting with our Assistant Superintendent to review our Draft copy of this year’s Student Learning Plan.  I would like to recognize and thank our Humanities teachers for your excellent work in planning activities that utilized First Peoples Principles of Learning to support their curricular competencies related to identity.  We will be distributing this year’s Learning Plan to our community in the weeks ahead.

Tomorrow is also a special day for our District Automotive Service Technician Program.  Mr. Roscoe, our Career Ed. staff and students will be celebrating another semester of learning and work experience.  We are very fortunate to be able to offer this program to Lord Tweedsmuir students and other students from across Surrey.  The opportunities provided to our students to learn lifelong employment skills are outstanding.  Congratulations to everyone on your success.

Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend.  See you on Monday.

Ken

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Note:  For the safety and privacy of our students, please avoid using the Elements Casino entrance as a designated drop-off/pick-up location.

Students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
