Principal's Message February 9-13th
Good morning Panthers,
On Tuesday in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia there was a tragic school shooting. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, as well as the parents, students, staff of the school community and the entire Tumbler Ridge community facing this unimaginable loss.
The BC government has proclaimed today a day of mourning across the province, in honour of the victims of Tumbler Ridge.
As the Tumbler Ridge community navigates the difficult days and weeks ahead, our thoughts and support remain with them. In times like these, we are reminded of the importance of caring for each other and coming together in compassion, and solidarity. In the coming days, as more information becomes available, emotions may feel especially heavy and supporting each other will be essential.
Please reach out to the school for additional assistance as needed.
“This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir”
It is Valentine’s Spirit week at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary, and our Student Council has been busy promoting school spirit fun across our community. Our school has been enjoying the themed dress-up days, Candy-gram sales, decorations and more. Thank you to our student leaders for your spirit and dedication. We are looking forward to Friday’s Candy-grams and Valentine’s Hot chocolate.

Congratulations to our Lord Tweedsmuir Grade 8 Girls Basketball team. The team won the Surrey Championships, emerging with a victory over Elgin Park. The team has enjoyed an amazing season. We are very proud of you. Way to go Panthers!

On Tuesday, many of our students enjoyed a special opportunity to cheer on Team Canada in the Hockey game against Team USA. Although the game didn’t turn out as we had hoped, it was an inspirational display of team spirit, resilience and sportsmanship. All wonderful values for our students to witness and an opportunity to come together in national pride. Thank you to the PHE Department for your work in hosting the event.

Our students have been enjoying our LTSS lunchtime intramural program. Student teams are currently playing handball, having fun, making friends, and improving their fitness. Students are encouraged to cheer on your team at lunchtime!

We have been recognizing and celebrating Black History month at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary honouring Black brilliance across generations. Special thanks to our Black Student Union Club for your leadership and to all staff for your thoughtful participation.

Have an excellent Friday and enjoy your long Family Day weekend. See you back at school on Tuesday.

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Note: For the safety and privacy of our students, please avoid using the Elements Casino entrance as a designated drop-off/pick-up location.
Students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
