Community Supports - collaboration to ensure success

Community Supports include any professionals who support the student's speech and language outside of the school setting or school hours. For example, private SLPs, respite workers, counsellors, social workers, tutors, and/or other therapists such as Occupational therapists (OTs) or Physiotherapists (PTs).

Parent(s)/guardian(s) may choose to partner solely with a private SLP or combine private SLP services with the school SLP. If a private SLP and the school SLP are working with the student at the same time the clinicians must engage in a cooperative service agreement. This is a requirement both by the college of speech and hearing professionals and the school district. Transparency and open communication is key in order to ensure ethical service delivery based on informed practice guidelines.
