Aesthetic Architects

 

 

Our goal is to make Frank Hurt a warmer, more inviting space for all students through the addition of plants! Members will attend meetings to plan plant displays, make rope hangers, water and maintain plants.

Anti-Oppression Collective

 

A social justice group ran by students who want to talk, listen, educate, and act on social injustices. Members of the AOC work to unlearn oppressive beliefs and values, share and understand our experiences, and make changes at our school so students are safer, have a voice, and are represented. All students are welcome.

Art Club

 

 

Art Club aims to create space and access for creative students to meet and make art. Materials are available for members to make art in a variety of mediums outside of the structure of art courses, providing the freedom throughout the year to explore personal ideas, access art materials, and socialize and get support from fellow creatives. Drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and digital creators are welcome!

Arts & Crafts Club

 


The arts & crafts club is intended to allow participants to build relationships, make connections, and share artistic qualities and abilities. Activities include drawing, painting, sketching, creating seasonals crafts, and sharing cultural art activities. Craft supplies will be available for members to use. Embroidery thread, paint and canvas, beads, and traditional Indigenous crafting. No experience necessary. Open to all students from grades 8-12.

Aviation Club


The aviation club hopes to promote aviation as a hobby, career, or field among students. The focus will be to talk about basic aviation, flight school, and potential career paths. There will be aviation-based games and the potential of field trips.

Black Student Union (BSU)  

 

 

 

The Black Student Union (BSU) is a student-led group whose members identify as Black/have African descent. This is a space for Black students who want to create community, collaborate, share, and learn with each other, and celebrate Black experiences and achievements, and challenge anti-Black racism at our school. The entire diversity of Black/African identities are welcome. Also, those who are non-Black that want to support this work are welcome.

Join Break the Cycle, a space where we tackle real issues affecting students every day from access to hygiene products to building awareness and support across our school community. The Crafting Social Club is a place for students to have their lunch, meet new people, socialize, and create a craft. Examples of crafts may include hand sewing, origami, and crocheting.

Drag Racing Team

 

 

Drag racing is a motor sport where students learn about high performance automobiles. Members will learn about high performance automobile technology and driving skills while competing at High School Drag Racing events.

Dungeons & Dragons Club

 

 

Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a popular tabletop roleplaying game. Learn how to play the game and create your character, or advance your tabletop experience by leading your own game as a Dungeon Master under the tutelage of the sponsor teacher, your Head DM. Join with a group of like-minded friends, or you may sign up as a solo player to be placed in a group as well. It is a great opportunity to increase fluency in simple arithmetic, develop organic social and emotional bonds, expand your creative and critical thinking skills, and practice your organization and executive functioning - all while exploring dungeons, slaying dragons and saving the world!

We are energy ambassadors. We take care of the community garden. We turn off the lights and computers. We want to save a little energy for our planet, think sustainability.

Frank Hurt Cancer Association

 

 

This club is dedicated to raising money for cancer research through at least two smaller fundraisers and our third annual Relay For Life event. Members are expected to attend weekly meetings and volunteer at each fundraiser. Past initiatives have included pizza sales, bottle drives, and bake sales. Relay For Life is a school-wide event where students form teams to fundraise and participate in fun activities and games throughout the day. Last year, we raised over $8,000 from Relay For Life alone.

Frank Hurt Film Club


To create a club where like-minded individuals who enjoy film and various media can come together and share their opinions in discussion. Students will watch films after school on Tuesday and have weekly discussions on Thursdays during lunch. Reviews for a collaborative Letterboxd account will be created and the club may also function as a place to create short films (for in-school & outside film festivals) or a group that can attend field trips to film festivals/screenings/events.

Frank Hurt Jiu Jitsu

 

We train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is a grappling-based sport. Students are taught fundamental principles and movements, and then go on to learn more advanced techniques. Classes consist of warm-up, technique, drills, and live sparring/rolling. Members are required to sign and return waiver forms and are expected to have a change of clothes.

Frank Hurt Math Academy


 

This club includes CEMC Contest preparation and Math Ninjas Homework Club, dedicated to helping students excel in the Canadian Mathematical Competitions (CEMC) and supporting math homework after school. We aim to foster a community of math enthusiasts, offering preparation, mentorship, and collaborative learning to empower students by students in their mathematical journey. Membership in the Club is open to 12 Math Ninjas plus all students interested in math, with expectations of active participation, collaborative learning, and a commitment to academic growth.

The Go Cricket Club promotes the love of cricket among enthusiasts of all skill levels, fostering teamwork and helping us make the strongest possible cricket team for the season. The Go Cricket Club welcomes cricket enthusiasts of all skill levels, providing opportunities for skill development, friendly matches, and camaraderie. The Go Cricket Club offers members diverse activities, including friendly matches, skill development sessions, and participation in interclub competitions. Additionally, the club engages in community outreach, hosts social events to promote Cricket at school, and conducts fundraising activities within the school and the wider community.

Research Club

 

 

The Research Club is a dynamic and collaborative space for students passionate about science, inquiry, and innovation. Our club is dedicated to fostering a love for research and experimentation as we prepare for the First School Science Fair and subsequently for the Regional Science fair and beyond. Our mission is to encourage students to explore scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and engage in hands-on projects that promote creativity and collaboration.

Rise Above Reality Expectation (RARE)

 

 

The RARE Future Leaders & After School Soccer Program aims to empower youth, especially those from marginalized communities by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that empowers young people to grow, develop, and give back to their communities. The program integrates mental health awareness, offering mindfulness and stress management training, while promoting physical fitness through sports and recreational activities. The mentorships expectation will encourage youth to be an ambassador to their school and communities by offering valuable work experience, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities. Youth will develop leadership skills by planning activities, managing peers, and contributing to community events, while being mentored by experienced professionals. We will discuss current issues that relate to bettering community engagement, learning how to support our peers through mental health, promoting awareness on bullying and racism and how to connect those new to our school to feel a sense of belonging. The sports program will offer skill training and fundamental development.

To help students who are struggling in science and for students who are interested in learning more about science in general. The purpose of the club is to help students with science related homework, in addition to hosting small workshops and pop-up classes that would introduce different science topics for different grades.

Zine Club

 

Zine Club Members learn about various methods of making zines, as well as history and contemporary uses for zines in print and online. Members can work on independent zines or contribute to group zines based on themes decided by the group. Members help fold, staple, bind, and share the finished zines after printing. Individual members can volunteer to lead the design of small-group, community, or individual zines about a topic of their choice. Zine Club leader (Ms. Bellmond) supports the organization, printing, and providing supplies for the creation of zines.
