Surrey and White Rock parents, caregivers, students, staff and community members are invited to attend the district’s second information session on artificial intelligence (AI) at the Bell Performing Arts Centre, further exploring the capabilities of AI in education and its potential for use by teachers in classroom environments.

Taking place Tuesday, Feb. 4, Artificial Intelligence & Learning will focus on how AI may be used to facilitate learning in the near future, with onstage demonstrations of AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI to showcase the benefits and challenges for teachers.

“As AI continues to grow in popularity, we remain at the forefront of ensuring how teachers can use AI safely and responsibly to improve learning in our schools,” said Supt. Mark Pearmain. “We continue to be a leader in our efforts to create better learning opportunities for students in the classroom while providing safe experiences with technology.”

Artificial Intelligence & Learning will also take a deeper dive into the privacy, security and ethics of AI in classrooms and will build upon the introduction to Generative AI from September’s The Promise and Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Our Children. The presentation will be led by Adam Garry, a former teacher and expert on AI and education with StrategicEDU Consulting, and will cover such topics as:

  • Investigating AI at Surrey Schools
  • AI and Student Learning
  • How AI can be used
  • Safety with AI

The session will also feature interactive polls, word clouds and a Q&A, with audience members participating through their phones.

Tickets are free and available through the Bell Performing Arts Centre website starting today (Friday, Jan. 10) at noon. Click here for tickets. (A recording of the information session will be made available after the event.)

The event takes place Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bell Performing Arts Centre (6250 144th St.). We hope to see you there!
