Remembrance Day Poetry Contest
Do you have a way with words? In honour of Remembrance Day, we want you to share your voice and honour the legacy of those who served through the power of poetry. Express your thoughts, gratitude, and reflections on the sacrifices made by our veterans. Let your voice be heard and your words remembered.
Submission Details:
- Deadline: Submit a hard copy of your original poem to Ms. Le or Ms. Young in the LLC by Wednesday October 15th.
- Theme: Remembrance, sacrifice, peace, or honoring those who served.
Recognition:
- The top 3 poems will be selected and read during the Remembrance Day Presentation on November 7.
- Winner will be interviewed and profiled, with their poem published in the SD36 News Website.
Judging Criteria
Poems will be evaluated by an esteemed panel of teachers based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to Theme
- Clearly reflects the message of Remembrance Day
- Thoughtful engagement with themes of sacrifice, peace, honoring veterans
- Creativity & Originality
- Unique perspective or voice
- Thoughtful use of imagery, figurative language, and/or structure
- Emotional Impact
- Evokes strong feelings or reflection in the reader
- Shows depth and sincerity
- Language & Style
- Effective word choice, tone, and poetic devices
- Consistent voice and rhythm
- Mechanics
- Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Clear and readable presentation
- Full name and grade indicated
- Title of poem included
