LA%20Matheson%20Womens%20Ctr%20donations.jpgThe L.A. Matheson Secondary school community raised more than $4,000 in donations for the Surrey Women's Centre through its Angel Tree drive, just one of the many charitable initiatives taken on by Surrey and White Rock schools this holiday season.

’Tis the season to be jolly, and students from across the district are filled with the holiday spirit this time of year!

So many schools in Surrey and White Rock took time to share acts of charity and kindness with others this holiday season. We know there are numerous examples, but we wanted to share some of them.

Students from Woodland Park Elementary and North Surrey Secondary spread some holiday cheer, making cards and visiting seniors at the Elim Village retirement community in Fleetwood.

Coast Meridian Elementary and Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary held food drives for the Cloverdale Community Kitchen. Lord Tweedsmuir principal Ken Hignell was “pushed out” of his office by donations – students were challenged to donate enough food to fill his office, and the school community showed their Panther Pride and stepped up with their generosity!

L.A. Matheson Secondary gathered $4,000 of donations for the Surrey Women’s Centre through its Angel Tree drive initiative, continuing a 12-year tradition of supporting local organizations while upholding efforts to end gender-based violence.

Elgin Park Secondary also hosted an Angel Tree, their annual gift drive, with families of Elgin buying gifts for children and women of the Atira Women’s Society.

Like dozens of generous schools in our district, Lena Shaw Elementary gathered more than 900 items for the Surrey Food Bank, AJ McLellan Elementary collected 100 boxes of food, and North Surrey Secondary’s 3rd annual buy-out games saw the Spartans raise a total of $1,518.30 and many, many food items for the food bank.

Grandview Heights Secondary hosted its annual Polar Pop-Up to raise money for the Surrey Food Bank by selling handmade ornaments and goods. The event also included magic tricks and holiday treats, photos with Santa, a kids craft table, face painting, and music and dance performances.

Lord%20Tweedsmuir%20Push%20Out%20the%20Principal.pngLord Tweedsmuir Secondary students piled up donations in principal Ken Hignell's office -- another successful "push out the principal" campaign!

Earl Marriott Secondary hosted a winter clothing drive, collecting jackets, boots, scarves and more for those in need of warm, winter wear, while Queen Elizabeth Secondary continued its annual Coins For Care drive to help support QE families over the winter break.

The Sullivan Heights Secondary Eco Club also sold candy bags to raise money for the David Suzuki Foundation.

These are just a handful of the countless number of caring initiatives throughout our district.

So many of our school communities do amazing charitable work during the holidays, and we thank all of them for their kindness, thoughtfulness and selflessness in this season of giving. Thank you for all that you do!
