Surrey and White Rock parents and caregivers are invited to attend a free, in-person information session on artificial intelligence (AI), taking place Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Bell Centre for Performing Arts (6250 144th St.).

Embracing Our Future: The Promise and Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Our Children aims to demystify the current and future role of AI in Surrey students’ education journeys. Led by Adam Garry of StrategicEDU Consulting, the evening will explore the pros and cons of AI, the current state of AI in school districts and the implications of its use in educational environments.

“At Surrey Schools, one of our goals is to develop our learners to adapt to a changing world that includes AI,” said Supt. Mark Pearmain. “As educators, it is our responsibility to explore all the safe and ethical ways we can use AI to enhance the students learning experience and create more equity in the classroom.”

The presentation will provide an introduction to Generative AI and cover platforms as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Other presentation topics include:

  • the ethical use of AI
  • AI in your child’s classroom
  • safety, privacy and security
  • future opportunities and careers

The evening will also feature a conversation with the district’s superintendent about AI in Surrey and White Rock schools. Parents are asked to register in advance and may also submit a question or topic they would like to see covered.
