Intergenerational connection made between Erma Stephenson Elementary students and Guildford seniors
Following a special visit to Guildford Seniors Village in mid-February, students from Erma Stephenson Elementary have been invited to visit residents on a monthly basis.
A class of Grade 4-5 students attended the complex on Valentine's Day, singing for residents and handing out handmade cards. The outing was part of the school’s efforts to celebrate and carry out acts of kindness throughout the month.
The visit was not only greatly appreciated by the seniors, but a valuable and touching experience for the students.
When they returned to school, they said they felt “special and important” because they had put smiles on the seniors’ faces.
The staff at Guildford Seniors Village was so impressed that they invited the kids back for regular, monthly visits as part of their intergenerational program.
And the kindness has spread – other classes at the school also now have plans to visit the seniors.
Way to go Erma Stephenson Elementary! Kindness matters!!
