B.A.S.E.S.

B.A.S.E.S. stands for "Building Academic, Social, and Employment Skills". Students in the B.A.S.E.S. program have histories of learning difficulties and needs for modified individualized education plans, I.E.P.s. The goal of the B.A.S.E.S. department at Enver Creek is to help each student develop appropriate life goals and to help them achieve these goals by providing them with the skills, experience, and confidence to work and live as independently as possible.

The B.A.S.E.S. program at Enver Creek focuses on two major areas of development: Life Skills and Academic Support. All students in B.A.S.E.S. benefit from instruction, activities, and teaching related to both of these areas, in varying amounts depending on each student's strengths and areas for growth.

The Life Skills area of instruction includes periods of instruction focused on modelling, teaching, and building appropriate and positive social skills. This is practiced through classroom activities, as well as community-building, both in and out of school. Furthermore, Life Skills instruction also addresses safety skills and employment skills. Safety skills are practiced in a multitude of ways, from identifying safety symbols to learning how to use public transit. Employment skills are worked on at school through modelling work situations at school, as well as through work experience opportunities with local businesses.

The Academic Support component of Enver Creek's B.A.S.E.S. program facilitates student learning opportunities in integrated classes throughout the school, in addition to academic instruction delivered in the B.A.S.E.S. resource classrooms. Starting with the development of I.E.P.s with students, their families, and other professionals, the B.A.S.E.S. department ensure that the goals from each I.E.P. are being worked towards. This may involve the development and inclusion of adaptations and modifications as necessary.  The B.A.S.E.S. department at Enver Creek regularly revisits goals and strategies to ensure students are gaining relevant knowledge and important skills throughout their high school experiences.

The Life Skills and Academic Support components of the B.A.S.E.S. department work closely together and with students, their families, and other teachers at Enver Creek to ensure that students are maximizing their personal and work potential during their time at Enver Creek.
