16 Surrey & White Rock students receive Höing Awards scholarships from VSO School of Music

VSO-March-2025--20.jpgSixteen students from across Surrey and White Rock are being recognized for their musical talent as recipients of this year’s Höing Awards, an annual scholarship from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) School of Music.

Founded in 2018 by longtime VSO supporters Werner and Helga Höing, the awards were created to recognize up to 20 Surrey students annually who have demonstrated excellence in music, school leadership and community involvement. The winners are honoured each year during the VSO’s annual spring concert at the Bell Performing Arts Centre.

The following students each received $1,000 towards their school’s music department:

  • Hala Al Said, Sullivan Heights Secondary
  • Jack Brown, École Salish Secondary
  • Aleesha Chaudhry, Enver Creek Secondary
  • Evan Cruz, Johnston Heights Secondary
  • Ezabella Gallanosa, Clayton Heights Secondary
  • Amarpreet Gill, Tamanawis Secondary
  • Kianna Henderson, Princess Margaret Secondary
  • Devin Jiang, Grandview Heights Secondary
  • Christopher Kim, North Surrey Secondary
  • Ege Omurluoglu, Semiahmoo Secondary
  • Ryan Stoklossa, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary
  • Noreen Tang, École Kwantlen Park Secondary
  • Jacob Teller, Frank Hurt Secondary
  • Thomas Tong, École Panorama Ridge Secondary
  • Kai Wang, Elgin Park Secondary
  • Adam Zaw, Fleetwood Park Secondary

“The Höing Awards play a vital role in inspiring our students to engage in music and nurture their creativity to help them grow as musicians,” said arts education helping teacher Tricia Liversidge. “We’re incredibly thankful to the Höing family for their kindness and unwavering support of our students in music.”
