As temperatures drop and flu cases rise, Fraser Health is reminding school communities that free flu vaccinations are available for children and families throughout the region.

Following two years of low influenza activity, the health region is seeing a sharp increase in illness and hospitalizations due to the flu, particularly among children. There are numerous methods to protect yourself and others this cold and flu season, with the flu vaccine being one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the flu.

Flu vaccines provide protection from the flu and can help prevent serious illness and hospitalization. The vaccine is free for anyone in B.C. aged six months and older, and is available as a shot or nasal spray.

Everyone is encouraged to book an appointment, using the Get Vaccinated system or by calling 1-833-838-2323.

Fraser Health also offers walk-in vaccinations (no appointment needed) at the following Surrey and White Rock-area locations (a list of other regional walk-in locations is available here):

  • North Surrey: 10025 King George Blvd., daily from 10:45 a.m. to 5:10 p.m. (closed from 1-2 p.m.)
  • South Surrey: 1797 152nd St., daily from 10:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. (closed 12:30-1:30 p.m.)

The district has also developed a resource for parents/guardians to help prevent illness during cold and flu season, and the importance of staying home when symptomatic. This resource can also be used when students develop symptoms while at school. The fact sheet is available in English, Punjabi, Chinese and Arabic.
